Sinda Laribi (PhD student ECRA Chair) and Lionel Dubois (post-doc ECRA Chair) presented the activities of the ECRA Chair and took part to the visit of the world first integrated CCS plant at Boundary Dam (SaskPower Company).

 

 

ECRA Award - September 2015

 

As during the Academic year 2013-2014, an ECRA Award rewarded the best Master 2 project or master thesis in relation with the CO2 capture and reuse, or for any significant improvement for the cement industry in the thematic « From CO2 to Energy ». The prize was given in September 2015 by Mr Daniel Gauthier (CEO CBR Belgium and Chairman Technical Advisory Board ECRA) to Mr Guillaume Pierrot for his Master Thesis on the subject of CO2 capture applied to cement flue gases.

Nicolas Meunier (PhD student ECRA Chair) presented the ECRA Chair activities and received one of the awards given for the best poster presentations.

Lionel Dubois (post-doc ECRA Chair) presented two posters in relation with the Chair activities.

The poster written by Lionel Dubois (post-doc ECRA Chair) was presented by a colleague from the Chemical and Biochemical Engineering Department of UMONS (Charles Fourneau) and received the award of the Best contribution in the thematic « Process Intensification and sustainability in chemical engineering ».

 

 

Norcem International CCS Conference at Langesund (Norway) - May 2015 

 

The ECRA Chair activities were presented by Daniel Gauthier and Martin Schneider. The ECRA Chair PhD students (Sinda Laribi and Nicolas Meunier) and the post-doc(Lionel Dubois) took part to this event and also to a meeting and visit at the Telemark University College of Porsgrunn.

Second ECRA Chair Scientific Event - Mons and Lixhe on the 09th-10th November 2016

 

This second event was a new opportunity to attend both industrial and academic presentations on the subject of COcapture and reuse in the cement industry. Moreover, on the second day of this event, after a warm welcome and very interesting presentations at the Waste Water Treatment Plant of Liège-Oupeye, a visit of the CBR Lixhe Cement Plant (HeidelbergCement Group) was organized, including a complete presentation of the “LEILAC” European Project.

GHGT-13 Conference (International Greenhouse Gas Control Technologies Conference)

at Lausanne (Switzerland) - 14th—18th November 2016

As during the previous academic years since the ECRA Chair creation (2013-2014), an ECRA Award rewarded the best Master 2 project or Master thesis in relation with the CO2 capture and reuse, or for any significant improvement for the cement industry in the thematic « From CO2 to Energy ». The prize was given in September 2017 by Mr Daniel Gauthier (Chairman Technical Advisory Board ECRA) to Mr Timothée Bryans for his Master Thesis on the subject of CO2 catalytic conversion into methanol.

As during the previous academic years, an ECRA Award rewarded the best Master 2 project or Master thesis in relation with the CO2 capture and reuse, or for any significant improvement for the cement industry in the thematic « From CO2 to Energy ». The prize was given in September 2016 by Mr Daniel Gauthier (Chairman Technical Advisory Board ECRA) to Mr Nicolas Debaisieux for his Master Thesis on the subject of Modeling and optimization of PSA processes for the treatment of gaseous effluebts rich in CO2.

Prof. Guy De Weireld and PhD student Remi Chauvy from the ECRA Chair took part to this event where Remi Chauvy presented a communication about the Techno-economic and environmental assessment of electrochemical reduction of CO2 to formic acid.

15th International Conference on Carbon Dioxide Utilization (ICCDU XV) at Shanghai

17-21 July 2017

 

ECRA Chair PhD students Remi Chauvy and Nicolas Meunier took part to this major international event in relation with carbon dioxide utilization where they presented two communications, namely on the Techno-economic and environmental assessments of: the conversion of CO2 into methanol and the electrochemical reduction of CO2 to formic acid.

9th Trondheim Conference on CO2 Capture, Transport and Storage (TCCS9) at Trondheim

12-14 June 2017

 

Prof. Guy De Weirled and ECRA Chair PhD student Nicolas Meunier took part to this international event in relation with the entire process chain from carbon dioxide capture to its storage or utilization, including the presentation of two communications, namely on the Techno-economic and environmental assessments of the conversion of CO2 into methanol, and the optimization of different CO2 capture processes applied to cement flue gases.

13th International Conference on Gas-Liquid and Gas-Liquid-Solid Reactor Engineering 

(GLS-13) at Brussels - 20-23 August 2017

 

Prof. Diane Thomas and ECRA Chair PhD students Seloua Mouhoubi and Sinda Laribi took part to this international event which has the aim to bring together top class researchers and engineers interested in all aspects of multiphase reactors and processes. ECRA Chair researches presented their works on: Modeling of CO2 post-combustion capture process using biphasic solvents, Experiments and simulation of the post-combustion CO2 capture absorption-regeneration process applied to cement flue gases with high CO2 contents, and Parametric study of the Sour Compression Unit (SCU) process for CO2 purification applied to flue gases coming from oxy-combustion cement industries.

Second ECRA/CEMCAP Workshop - 06-07 November 2017 at ECRA premises in Düsseldorf.

 

Prof. Guy De Weireld and PhD student Sinda Laribi from the ECRA Chair took part to this event where the different research activities in relation with the CEMCAP European project were presented. A poster in relation with all the ECRA Academic Chair activities was also presented during this workshop.

The 8th International VDZ Congress at Düsseldorf (Germany) -  26 - 28 September 2018

 

ECRA Chair PhD student Remi Chauvy took part to the 8th International VDZ Congress at Düsseldorf (Germany) and presented the research results acquired by the ECRA Academic Chair in the field of Carbon Capture and Utilization applied to the cement industry. As indicated on vdz-online.de, since 1971 the VDZ Congress is an international forum of the cement industry and science. At the VDZ Congress scientists and experts from technically leading cement works discuss current technical developments in cement manufacture and the challenges of the industry with international participants. 

IEAGHG International CCS Summer School 2018 at Trondheim (Norway) - 25-28 June 2018

 

ECRA Chair PhD student Seloua Mouhoubi took part to the IEAGHG International CCS Summer School 2018 organized at the NTNU in Trondheim (Norway). Seloua could also present her PhD Thesis work during a poster session.

The ECRA/CEMCAP/CLEANKER Workshop “Carbon Capture Technologies in the Cement Industry” at Brussels (Belgium) - 17 October 2018

 

ECRA Chair PhD student Remi Chauvy and ECRA Chair Scientific & Research Coordinator (post-doc) Lionel Dubois took part to this workshop and presented the research results acquired by the ECRA Academic Chair in the field of Carbon Capture and Utilization applied to the cement industry. An oral presentation was given by Remi Chauvy and a poster was both presented by Remi Chauvy and Lionel Dubois.

ECRA Chair PhD student Remi Chauvy took part to this major international event in relation with Carbon Capture Utilization, and presented the research results acquired by the ECRA Academic Chair in the field of CO2 conversion to synthetic natural gas (oral presentation) and on the application of multi-criteria decision-making methods in Carbon Capture and Utilisation (poster).

The 15th Greenhouse Gas Control Technologies Conference (GHGT-15) at Abu Dhabi (Dubai, U.A.E.) – 15-18 March 2021 – Remote participation

 

The ECRA Chair Academic Supervisor Prof. Guy De Weireld and the ECRA Chair Scientific & Research Coordinator Dr Lionel Dubois took part to this major international event in relation with Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage (CCUS), and presented the research results acquired by the ECRA Academic Chair in the field of Carbon Capture & Reuse applied to the cement industry.

 

Dr Lionel Dubois presented an oral communication on the works performed together with the ECRA Chair Post-Doc Dr Remi Chauvy on the techno-economic and environmental assessment of CO2 capture applied in a cement plant and the heat integration with the CO2 conversion process into synthetic natural gas (SNG). Lionel Dubois also presented a poster on the investigation of process configurations for the post-combustion CO2 capture absorption-regeneration process applied to cement plant flue gases.

 

Prof. Guy De Weireld presented a poster on the European Project MOF4AIR Coordinated by UMONS and in relation with the use of Metal Organic Frameworks (MOF) in the CO2 adsorption processes for power production and energy Intensive industries.

The International Congress of Chemical and Process Engineering (CHISA 2021) at Praha (Czech Republic) – 15-18 March 2021 – Remote participation

The ECRA Chair Academic Coordinator Prof. Diane Thomas took part to this important international event in relation with all the Chemical Processes. As a keynote lecture, she presented the ECRA Chair works in relation with the CO2 capture applied to cement plant flue gases and especially two ways that have been investigated to reduce the energy consumption of the post-combustion absorption-regeneration process, namely the implementation of advanced process configurations and the use of demixing solvents (works that was part of the Post-Doc of L. Dubois and PhD Thesis of S. Mouhoubi respectively).

Participation to several webinars and seminars during 2020 and beginning 2021 – Remote participation

Due to the sanitary situation linked to the COVID-19 problematic, several events scheduled in 2020 were postponed to 2021 or were converted into webinars or virtual events. This period was an opportunity for the ECRA Chair members to take part to these events and to learn more about the carbon capture utilization and storage (CCUS) in general and for the application in the cement industry, but also to get some information about future project calls (regional, national or European ones). These events were organized by different companies or organizations, such as ECRA, the Global CCS Institute, IEAGHG, CO2 Value Europe, Engie, Fluxys, Cementech, NCCS Center, European Commission the CCUS Project Network, etc.
